Senators send Chychrun to Capitals for Nick Jensen and 2026 third
With the Ottawa Senators moving defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round pick we plugged the trade into NHL 24 to see if it would go through.
The Senators acquired Chychrun in 2023 in exchange for a first and two second-round draft picks.
With this deal the Senators acquire a right-handed defender who is excellent defensively and save a little bit of money against the cap, while the Capitals get the better player to help keep their team competitive with Alex Ovechkin.
When we proposed the deal from Ottawa's side Washington leapt at the chance to acquire Chychrun, accepting the deal immediately.
When we attempted to make the trade as Washington, the Senators vehemently refused the deal, stating we did not offer enough value in return.
Ultimately NHL 24 thinks that Washington came out with more value and the better player here, and that is hard to argue against.
The 33-year-old Jensen is signed through 2025-26, while the 26-year-old Chychrun is signed through next season.
