Lane Hutson in NHL 24
Montreal Canadiens top prospect put pen to paper, signing a three-year entry-level deal with the team. His NCAA season came to an unfortunate end as Boston University lost in the Frozen Four to the University of Denver. Hutson wraps up his collegiate career with an incredible stat line of 30 goals and 97 points in 77 games through his two seasons for the Terriers.
Hutson fell in his NHL Draft largely due to his lack of size for a defenseman. Teams stayed clear of him since he didn't meet their "size" requirements. He fell into Montreal's lap at the end of the second round in 2022 and he has a real shot at being one of the biggest steals in a draft we've seen in recent years.
EA SPORTS doesn't own the rights to add NCAA players into their game, but Hutson now has himself an NHL contract and will be added to NHL 24 in their next roster update.
Until then, we decided to create him and predict what his overall, potential, and attributes will be.

78 overall felt more than reasonable for Hutson considering when you watch him play, he already looks NHL-ready. We debated giving him Elite potential but settled with High Top 4 D.
We did give him some X-factors. His zone ability is Elite Edges. He's one of the most elusive skaters you'll see with his ability to stop up and turn on a dime to evade pressure.
He's an offensive defenseman, so he gets a couple of offensive superstar abilities in Tape to Tape and Heatseeker. Hutson possesses the deception to delay and draw defenders in before making a perfect seam pass, but he also takes his opportunities from range to snipe.
We won't go through all of his attributes and instead highlight the strengths and weaknesses we gave him. He's an elite skater and 90 agility is quite high, but he deserves it. His Puck Skills are four stars highlighted by 89 passing.
His weakness is his Physical stats. Hutson doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and engaging physically on occasion. The issue is that he will struggle to play with any physicality against NHL players. However, Hutson has the potential to be a Quinn Hughes or Adam Fox-like player in the NHL with his elite skating, offensive intelligence, and manipulation.
