Take on the NHL 24 World Champ's lineup in Squad Battles
NHL 24's Team of the Week showcases the winning team Ethan "Polgz" Kerr-Polgar used at the EA SPORTS NHL 24 World Championship. Players can challenge his lineup in HUT Squad Battles and earn two times points if they win. Polgz defeated Justin "Regs" Reguly in their winner take all game three, becoming the first Canadian to win the NHL GWC.
Polgz drafted his team when he made it to the final eight of the EA SPORTS North American Finals. He was lucky enough to secure the first overall pick, which he used to draft the best player in the game, Connor McDavid.
When we spoke with him for our featured article on him last month, we asked if he had any strategies going into the HUT draft. Polgz replied that he wanted his team to be fast so it harmonizes nicely with his playstyle.
He also wanted to grab players that would complement playing with McDavid on his top line. That is where you see the likes of St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou and Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin. Kyrou's speed matched up with McDavid's turbo jets and then Ovechkin provided the shooting threat for the line while also being extremely hard to knock off the puck.
Another highlight of his team is the big 6-foot-4 New York Islanders right-shot defenseman Noah Dobson. Dobson is one of the best all-around defensemen in the game due to his size, skating, shooting, and defensive stats. He's a player that chel players can feel very confident using at both ends of the rink.
Polgz is a big time Toronto Maple Leafs fan, so naturally, he had to grab a Leafs player for his team. His choice was the rugged blueliner Jake McCabe. He sparingly utilized McCabe as he stuck him on his third pair with New Jersey Devils defenseman Simon Nemec.
Goaltending is where lies his weakness. Polgz mentioned to us that he didn't prioritize drafting a goalie and when all was said and done, he settled with Calgary Flames netminder Dan Vladar. At a mere 80 overall, players should be able to get pucks past him, especially if you're playing with a 90 overall team in HUT.
However, if you tuned into the NHL 24 World Championship or North American Finals, you would've seen that Vladar came through with big saves for Polgz. Having a goalie who is 6-foot-5 has its benefits even if they are a low overall.
