It's win or go home for the Oilers as they return home for Game 6. Simulating Vancouver vs. Edmonton Game 6 in NHL 24
Our series simulation had the Edmonton Oilers defeating the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 in the series. But it's the Canucks who have the chance to eliminate the Oilers in six games tonight.
NHL 24 didn't just predict the correct winner for Game 5, they predicted the correct score of 3-2 in favour of Vancouver as well. If they can be bang on again, Edmonton fans will be utterly happy with the outcome of our Game 6 simulation.
Via the Edmonton Oilers official Twitter/X account, Stuart Skinner will get the start in net for the Oilers after Calvin Pickard started the last two games.
Frank Seravalli also mentioned that their trade deadline acquisition Adam Henrique may be coming into the lineup in replace of Corey Perry. Henrique last played in Game 2 of the series where he only played 11:38 in the Oilers' 4-3 overtime victory.
Here are the lines we used for the simulation:
Nugent-Hopkins - McDavid - Hyman
Holloway - Draisaitl - Kane
McLeod - Henrique - Foegele
Janmark - Ryan - Brown
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Desharnais
Kulak - Ceci
Skinner
Pickard
No expected lineup changes for Vancouver which isn't surprising considering how effective Rick Tocchet's changes to the lines were in Game 5's win.
Suter - Miller - Boeser
Hoglander - Lindholm - Pettersson
Joshua - Blueger - Garland
Di Giuseppe - Aman - Podkolzin
Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Myers
Zadorov - Cole
Silovs
DeSmith
The Canucks got off to the better start between the two Canadian teams scoring twice in the opening frame. But the Oilers woke up and scored four goals in the second period to go up 4-2 heading into the third.
Adam Henrique scored twice, which would be very ideal for Edmonton considering the lack of secondary scoring they have gotten in the playoffs.
However, a parade to the penalty box is not a good recipe for defending a third period lead. Noted powerplay merchant Nils Aman scored on a 5-on-3 to bring the Canucks within one. The Oilers killed off another 5-on-3 in the period but allowed Filip Hronek to walk in with under a minute left and score the equalizer, sending this game to overtime.
Despite allowing two goals in the third, Stuart Skinner was under siege and made 17 stops on 19 shots in the period.
Overtime did not last long as Connor McDavid put home the game-winner and ended the simulation in a 5-4 win for the Oilers.
This series has maybe been the most entertaining NHL playoff series up to this point. If the real life game is to play out as NHL 24 predicts here, fans are in for a treat.
Edmonton versus Vancouver is the only game on the docket tonight with puck drop coming just after 8pm EST.
