American right winger Anthony Greco, 31, has left KHL club Lada Togliatti and signed a contract to play the remainder of the current season with EHC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland, the National League club announced on Thursday.
Greco is the third player of note to leave the KHL since the start of the season to join a club in Switzerland, following Michal Krištof in October and Linden Vey in November. Additionally, Will Butcher has left the KHL for Germany and 2011 NHL first-rounder Nathan Beaulieu also did so for a club in Slovakia.
A native of New York City and a graduate of Ohio State University, where he was the Buckeyes’ captain his senior year, Greco was never drafted but signed with his hometown New York Islanders in the spring of 2016 and immediately assigned to their AHL farm team in Bridgeport, Conn.
Between 2016 and 2022, Greco’s NHL rights went from the Islanders to the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks and finally the New York Rangers. Through all of that, he played two NHL games – one with the Panthers in 2018-19 and one with the Rangers in 2021-22. During that time, he recorded 235 points in 361 AHL games.
Since 2022, Greco has played in Europe. He spent two years in Sweden for Frölunda HC and Linköping HC before heading to the KHL this past off-season. In 19 KHL games, Greco had one goal and three assists.
