As the result of a KHL trade, 29-year-old Canadian center Rourke Chartier moves from Kunlun Red Star to CSKA Moscow in exchange for cash, the latter club announced on Thursday.

Chartier had 17 points in 37 games for Kunlun this season, which was fifth on the team at the time of the trade. This is his first season in the KHL after signing as a free agent last summer.

Born in Saskatoon, Sask., Chartier played junior hockey for the Kelowna Rockets, where he was part of a WHL championship team in 2014-15 and played in the Memorial Cup. He was chosen in the fifth round, 149th overall, by the San Jose Sharks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Between 2018 and 2024, Chartier played 56 NHL games for the Sharks and Ottawa Senators, scoring three goals and adding one assist to go along with 16 penalty minutes. He spent the rest of the time in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda and Belleville Senators.

CSKA is currently ranked third in the KHL’s 11-team Western Conference with 53 points in 37 games. Kunlun is 10th in the conference with 32 points in 38 games.

At CSKA, Chartier joins former NHLers Denis Guryanov, Nikita Nesterov, Fredrik Claesson and Christian Jaroš, as well as NHL prospects Pavel Karnaukhov, Nikita Okhotyuk (both Calgary Flames), Vitali Abramov (Ottawa), Ruslan Iskhakov, Dmitri Gamzin (both New York Islanders), Yegor Afanasyev (San Jose), Nikolai Makarov, Kirill Dolzhenkov (both Columbus Blue Jackets), Prokhor Poltapov (Buffalo Sabres) and Artyom Barabosha (New Jersey Devils).
