Toronto eyes veteran Sergei Bobrovsky to anchor their crease, potentially reuniting the two-time champion with Anthony Stolarz to provide mentorship and postseason pedigree for a hefty price tag.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are being linked to 37-year-old Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky as we approach free agency in the NHL.

This news came out late this past week during the 2026 NHL Draft: the Maple Leafs are interested in signing Bobrovsky and are likely going to be offering him a contract when the market opens.

As of right now, the Maple Leafs have Anthony Stolarz Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov as their goaltending depth after they parted with Joseph Woll earlier this month.

Bobrovsky is a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Florida Panthers; however, last season he struggled a bit. Now, keep in mind, the Panthers were also a shell of their team due to injuries, which could be the reason. Nevertheless, here are his stats from this past season.

In 52 games, he had a 27-23-1 record along with a 3.07 goals against average and a .877 save percentage, along with four shutouts. He is only a year removed from having a 33-19-2 record with a 2.44 GAA and a .906 SV%.

It would make sense why the Maple Leafs would want to sign him. He's experienced, a winner and could mentor the younger goalies. If they did decide to go down this route, there's a good chance that Stolarz would be dealt or bought out and they'd run an all-international goalie trio. That said, he and Stolarz were a great tandem in Florida when they won the Cup just two seasons ago.

The only thing that is left is to determine his contract, which appears to be a hefty one. Reports suggest that he is seeking a deal that could pay him $42 million, with the expected term being in the five-to-seven-year range.
