Team Sweden head coach Sam Hallam has
unveiled his roster for the second Euro Hockey Tour stop of the season. The
tournament, held in Switzerland, features top Europe-based players from
Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, and Czechia. Hallam’s group includes several
intriguing names, among them Nashville Predators prospect Felix Nilsson.
Sweden won the first Euro Hockey Tour event
in November, and 17 players from that roster are back for this stop. In a
typical year, Hallam would rotate more spots, but the condensed schedule due to
the Olympics has tightened his options.
“That was our plan for these two tournaments, to select players from both the SHL and Switzerland. We also liked what the players showed in Ängelholm and Tampere last month. This is a solid team with size, high hockey IQ, and a strong emphasis on two-way play and battles,” said head coach Sam Hallam.
One player who stands out on an otherwise
veteran-heavy roster is Nilsson. The 2023
second-round pick has put together an intriguing first half of the SHL season.
On an injury-hit Rögle squad, Nilsson has shown he can step up and handle major
minutes, providing creativity and a spark with his high-tempo skating. The
selection marks Nilsson’s debut with the Swedish senior national team, and it
will be very interesting to see what he can do against high-profile
competition.
