EDMONTON -- Even if you like a player, you can't always keep them.

That's certainly the case with the Edmonton Oilers this year. This past summer, they said goodbye to several well-liked teammates, including Warren Foegele, Cody Ceci and Dylan Holloway.

Alex Chiasson was one player they said goodbye to a long time ago. Chiasson joined the Oilers training camp on a PTO in the 2018-19 season.

He would earn a two-year $2.15-million contract extension after a 22-goal, 38-point season. Chiasson had a lot of grit in his game and a nose for the net.

Now, Chiasson is looking to make a comeback. The 33-year-old winger has signed a PTO with the Detroit Red Wings.

Of course, he is not the only former Oilers player attending Red Wings training camp. Jack Campbell and Cam Talbot were signed by the Red Wings as free agents this past summer.

Chiasson did not play in the NHL last season after failing to make an impression on his PTO with the Boston Bruins. The last time he played for an NHL team was the 2022-23 season. He recorded nine points in 20 games playing for the Red Wings.

The 11-year NHL veteran still has a passion for the game. If he is willing to take a reduced role and makes a strong enough impression in camp, he could be an incredibly valuable asset to the Red Wings.

If he fails, he might have to take his talents to Europe to continue his playing career.
