Recent development involving a former Edmonton Oilers forward and their almost 12-year marriage

EDMONTON -- Former Edmonton Oilers forward Milan Lucic hasn't had the best 2023-24 season.

Things have been rocky professionally for Lucic since he was traded to the Calgary Flames in July of 2019 - and even for at least a year before that. Things were looking up for him this season when he returned to the team that drafted him, the Boston Bruins.

His personal life took a nosedive in late 2023. On November 18th Lucic took a leave from the NHL in light of his arrest in relation to a "domestic incident" that took place the night of November 17th involving his wife Brittany Lucic.

On November 21st Milan pleaded not guilty to assault and battery charges towards Brittany. Afterwards he was released on recognizance bail.

The trial carried forward to February 16th - when the case against Milan was dropped. The judge denied the use of Brittany's 911 call as evidence in the case. That combined with Brittany refusing to testify left the prosecution with no case against Milan.

According to Bridget Reilly of the New York Post - on Monday night Brittany filed documents for divorce. In the documents she states November 17th as their separation date - which was the night that the alleged abuse occurred.

Brittany cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the couple's divorce. The couple married on July 19, 2012 - and have three children together. She is asking for custody of their three children in addition to spousal support from Milan.

Milan has not returned to the Bruins since his initial leave - and will remain on leave for the foreseeable future.
