College hockey is back at Lambeau Field with two historic programs set to face off for the first time in two decades. This announcement means much more than a regular outdoor game, it; it's the revival of hockey in one of sports' most historic buildings.
Cheese heads, brace yourselves, because College hockey is returning to Lambeau Field, and the Wisconsin Badgers will headline the big game with a huge Big Ten matchup against the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2027.
This event marks the first time since 2006 that hockey will be played at Lambeau Field. On that day, the Wisconsin Badgers took down the Ohio State Buckeyes 4-2, and more than two decades later, the Badgers will take the ice at the iconic 81,041-seat stadium. And this time it’ll not only be against a rival, but one of the favourites to win the national championship, a game that Wisconsin was in just last season.
This heated matchup highlights 15 NCAA championships across the two teams, bringing two of the most storied programs to the limelight. The outdoor setting at Lambeau Field should provide an atmosphere unlike a typical conference game, with college hockey taking center stage in one of the most recognizable sports venues in the entire world
Wisconsin Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst called the opportunity to play at Lambeau Field a unique privilege for the university’s hockey program, while Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel mentioned the excitement of bringing outdoor hockey back to one of the sport’s most memorable settings.
The game will be part of the Travel Wisconsin Frozen Tundra Faceoff, with the men’s matchup scheduled as the second game of the day following the women’s contest between Wisconsin and Ohio State, the matchup that started this long-awaited outdoor series.
Puck drop time, broadcast information, and additional event details have not yet been announced.
Presale tickets for the event are scheduled to become available Wednesday, Sept. 9, with general ticket sales beginning Friday, Sept. 11.
When Wisconsin and Michigan meet under the lights at Lambeau Field, the historic football stadium will swap the gridiron for the ice once again, and hopefully not the last, creating a rare outdoor setting for one of college hockey’s premier rivalries.
