A talented Canadian center leaves USports for Bowling Green State, bringing his scoring and CHL talents to the NCAA ranks.

Teague Patton announced his transfer from Canadian USports to the NCAA. The center has departed Mount Royal University following his sophomore season for Bowling Green State University.

Through 24 games, Patton put up 31 points (8 goals + 23 assists) making him second among Cougar players in assists and third in points. This commitment makes Patton the third player with CHL experience in Bowling Green's pipeline.

Patton is one of the first USports transfers heading south of the border this offseason. This trend and its impact is something I covered in depth a few weeks ago. The data I uncovered is that former USports players' point production dropped by an average of 10.1 points from their Canadian totals. However, that is not to say the same fate befalls Patton. Instead, I believe he will adjust better to the NCAA than previous players.

Based on the data, most of the transfers from USports departed after their freshman year. Patton would have been a junior if he stayed in Canada. Additionally, Patton more than doubled his point total from freshman to sophomore years. He showed a trajectory in the WHL. Add in the fact that Bowling Green State has a minimum of five former CHL players incoming for 2026-27, makes me believe Patton's background will be an asset and not a detriment at the NCAA level.
