The New Jersey Devils dealt with serious injury trouble during the post-season. They notably lost key defensemen Luke Hughes, Brenden Dillon, and Johnathan Kovacevic to injury during their first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes. Superstar forward Jack Hughes was also sidelined throughout the playoffs after suffering a season-ending injury in early March.
These were not the only Devils who were injured, though. While speaking to team reporter Amanda Stein, Devils defenseman Brett Pesce revealed that he suffered a shoulder injury during Game 1 of the Devils' series against Carolina but played through it.
Although Pesce was injured, he undoubtedly played major minutes for the Devils during their first-round series against the Hurricanes. The right-shot blueliner played over 22 minutes in every game of the series and played over 32 minutes in both Games 3 and 5 for the Devils.
Pesce was a bright spot for the Devils during the playoffs, too, as he recorded three assists and a plus-4 rating in five games. He also notably recorded two of his assists in Game 5, so he did his best to keep the Devils alive.
Pesce signed a six-year, $33 million contract with the Devils this past off-season. In 72 games with the Devils this campaign, he posted three goals, 14 assists, 17 points, and 138 blocks.
