Team USA Rounds Out Olympic Coaching Staff

USA Hockey has named the four coaches that will join David Quinn's staff at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

With the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics being just a few weeks away, USA Hockey has begun putting the final touches on the team that will look to bring home an elusive gold medal. 

Those latest efforts were focused behind the bench on Thursday, as USA Hockey announced that Mike Hastings, Brett Larson, Scott Young, David Lassonde, and Alex Dawes will join head coach David Quinn's staff as assistants for the upcoming Games.

With three of the four members of the supporting coaching staff playing key roles at the helm of prominent collegiate programs, this might hint towards a significant NCAA slant in Team USA's roster selection process. 

Hastings and Larson are plucked directly out of the NCAA, with the former serving as head coach for the men's hockey team at Minnesota State University, while the latter holds the same position at St. Cloud State University. 

Young brings with him a sparkling resume, as the 54-year-old currently serves as director of player development for the Pittsburgh Penguins and is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. 

Lassonde's duties, on the other hand, will be firmly focused on the crease, with his role as USA Hockey's national goaltending coach meaning he will be working with the trio of Team USA's goaltenders to prepare them for the medal pursuit ahead. 

And finally, Dawes will likely oversee duties relating primarily to video, as he currently serves as video coach at Penn State University. 

With the Olympics inching closer on the horizon, roster announcements should not be too far away, either.
