Jean Beliveau is the latest focus of Wild Wednesday Rewind.
Here's today's NHL Nugget – this edition of Wild Wednesday Rewind looks at the day Jean Beliveau changed the way the league handled power plays.
On Nov. 5, 1955, the Montreal Canadiens legend scored three power-play goals in a 44-second span against the Boston Bruins. Back then, a player who took a minor penalty had to serve the entire two minutes, even if the opposing team scored a power-play goal.
Beliveau's remarkable feat is one of the factors that sparked the rule change that was implemented in the following season, and the league maintains to this day.
