Quebec City will officially host the 2028 Memorial Cup, with the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts being named as one of four participating teams in the event.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is taking center stage in 2028 for one of the biggest events in junior hockey.
The Canadian Hockey League announced on Thursday that the 108th Memorial Cup will be heading to Quebec City, with the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts being the host team.
Quebec was named the host city after a bidding process which left the Remparts as well as the Moncton Wildcats as the finalists back in July. It marks the first time in the tournament's history that it will be held at Videotron Centre.
"The Remparts and their partners presented a compelling vision backed by a passionate hockey community and proven experience hosting major events," CHL president Dan MacKenzie said in a release.
"We look forward to delivering an exceptional championship for players and fans while celebrating the city’s hockey heritage and honouring the Memorial Cup's military roots."
The Remparts are the most recent QMJHL team to win the Memorial Cup, defeating the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds in 2023 when the tournament was hosted in Kamloops, B.C.. The Remparts have appeared in the Memorial Cup on four occasions since 1997, capturing two championships (2006, 2023).
"Over the past several months, we have worked tirelessly to build a strong bid and were confident in our ability to meet all the requirements," Tommy Castonguay, vice president of operations for the Quebec Remparts said.
To celebrate the city's selection, the CHL, QMJHL, and Remparts are planning a community event in November, with details to be provided at a later date.
"Quebec City is a flagship market for the QMJHL and for all of Canada. I am confident that the Remparts will do an outstanding job of welcoming the fans and everyone involved in the event," QMJHL commissioner Mario Cecchini later added.
