These three NHL goalies still have the potential to be traded before the start of the season.
Recently, TheHockeyNews.com looked at three NHL centers and three NHL defensemen who could be traded before the start of the 2026-27 season.
Now, in this latest edition of the series, let's take a look at three NHL goalies who could end up being dealt before this upcoming campaign.
Determining a goalie's value on the trade market is difficult, but what is certain is that a goalie can make or break a team's season. With the league's pace and high scoring, finding a consistent goalie is challenging, but finding one when he is hot can lead to long playoff runs.
Connor Hellebuyck, Winnipeg Jets
Questions about Connor Hellebuyck's future with the Winnipeg Jets have come up often this off-season. He has been the subject of many trade rumors, and it is certainly fair to wonder if he will be moved before the start of the season.
Trading Hellebuyck would be a franchise-altering move for the Jets and for whatever team acquires him. The 33-year-old goalie has not only been a major part of Winnipeg's core for years now, but he's arguably been their most important player.
However, with the Jets taking a major step in the wrong direction last season, it could make sense for them to trade him while his value is still high.
Hellebuyck had a down year with the Jets in 2025-26, posting a 23-23-11 record, an .895 save percentage, and a 2.86 goals-against average in 57 games. However, the 2025 Hart Memorial Trophy winner would still bring the Jets a major return if they decided to trade him.
Samuel Montembeault, Montreal Canadiens
Samuel Montembeault is another clear goalie trade candidate to keep an eye on between now and the 2026-27 season.
Montembeault went from Montreal's starter to their third-string goalie this past season. With the Habs possessing two promising young goalies in Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler ahead of him on their depth chart, it would make sense for Montreal to trade him soon.
Montembeault's value is at its lowest right now, though, as he had an .873 save percentage and a 3.43 goals-against average in 25 games last season for the Montreal Canadiens. Yet, there could still be an NHL team willing to buy low on him if they feel he can bounce back. From 2022-23 to 2024-25, he had a .901 save percentage or better in each season.
Jordan Binnington, St. Louis Blues
Jordan Binnington has been the subject of trade rumors for years now and could use a change of scenery. This is especially so with Joel Hofer taking over as the St. Louis Blues' starting goalie.
Binnington had a rough year in 2025-26, as he posted a 13-20-7 record, a 3.33 goals-against average, and an .873 save percentage in 41 games. While he is undoubtedly coming off a bad season, his past success could lead teams needing goalie help to target him. This is especially true given that he is famous for stepping up in big games.
A Binnington trade may be more likely leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline, but he should still be watched during the final weeks of the off-season.
