There's a ton of exciting talent among the NHL's 51st to 75th top team-affiliated prospects.
The Edmonton Oilers' top prospect, two goaltenders, Lane Hutson's brother and a center the Toronto Maple Leafs traded ended up in this batch of hockey's top 100 prospects list in The Hockey News' Future Watch issue.
We asked a scout, director of player personnel or GM from each NHL team to provide their input on the top prospects in the game, using a five-to-10-year measuring stick.
We start this project in mid-January after NHL teams have had post-WJC scouting meetings. At that point, we draw a line in the sand about who’s a prospect and who’s an NHLer.
Stay tuned as we continue to go through the ranking – and catch up on the players placed 76th to 100th by clicking here. Or check out the entire top 100 prospects list now with write-ups on each player by being subscribed to The Hockey News.
51. Fedor Svechkov, C, Nashville Predators
Milwaukee (AHL)
Svechkov played his first nine NHL games starting in November before being returned to the AHL. Less than a month later, he was back in the NHL – this time for an extended stay – and in mid-January, he put together a three-game goal streak, including a game-winner. While he is still green, more often than not, he has displayed the well-rounded, reliable approach he showed off in the KHL and last season with Milwaukee. He’ll factor heavily into an off-season overhaul. - David Boclair
52. Sam Rinzel, D, Chicago Blackhawks
Minnesota (Big Ten)
53. Samuel Honzek, LW, Calgary Flames
Calgary (AHL)
54. Oliver Moore, C, Chicago Blackhawks
Minnesota (Big Ten)
55. Fabian Lysell, RW, Boston Bruins
Providence (AHL)
56. Maveric Lamoureux, D, Utah Hockey Club
Tucson (AHL)
Lamoureux showed great confidence with the puck after being called into NHL duty when a slew of injuries besieged Utah’s blueline. He showed zero hesitation getting physically involved – but he could stand to dial things back; after just 15 games, he’d quickly become Utah’s PIM leader. Still, he shows great poise and can provide offense from the deep corners of the zone, creating rebounds and shot-passes from range. He will become a vital, physically imposing piece on Utah’s back end. - Austin Facer
57. Joakim Kemell, RW, Nashville Predators
Milwaukee (AHL)
58. Logan Mailloux, D, Montreal Canadiens
Laval (AHL)
59. Liam Ohgren, LW, Minnesota Wild
Iowa (AHL)
60. Noah Ostlund, C, Buffalo Sabres
Rochester (AHL)
61. Matt Savoie, C, Edmonton Oilers
Bakersfield (AHL)
By swapping Ryan McLeod for local boy Savoie, the Oilers added a versatile, hyper-skilled forward. Savoie helped the Moose Jaw Warriors to their first WHL title and Memorial Cup berth last year. Now in the AHL, Savoie is learning from Bakersfield’s vets while playing big minutes in all situations. “It’s important to kill penalties because when you go up to the NHL, if you’re not top six, it’s hard to get on the power play,” Oilers assistant GM Keith Gretzky said. “He’s got a good stick, he’s smart, and he’s a speedy guy.” - Carol Schram
62. Cole Hutson, D, Washington Capitals
Boston University (HE)
Hutson was the first ‘D’ ever to outright lead the WJC in scoring (11 points in seven games). A mobile puck-mover with the ability to read and react, Hutson brings a healthy swagger. “His vision is up there with the best I’ve ever seen,” Capitals assistant GM Ross Mahoney said. As a BU freshman, Hutson quarterbacks the power play and has been trusted to protect late leads. He needs to bulk up, but, “he’s not afraid to stick his nose in there,” Mahoney said. “He’s very competitive. It’s what makes him special.” - Ben Raby
63. Jacob Fowler, G, Montreal Canadiens
Boston College (HE)

The first Mikko Rantanen trade kicked off NHL trade deadline season on Jan. 24. Since then, 61 total draft picks and quite a few prospects were involved in the deals afterward.
67. Sacha Boisvert, C, Chicago Blackhawks
North Dakota (NCHC)
68. Shakir Mukhamadullin, D, San Jose Sharks
San Jose (AHL)
69. Sebastian Cossa, G, Detroit Red Wings
Grand Rapids (AHL)
In his second full AHL year, Cossa has become a go-to goalie, earning selection to the AHL All-Star Game. “He reads plays well, and he can use his hands,” former crease mate Ville Husso said. Cossa’s massive frame fills the net and lets him battle through screens. Cossa got his first taste of NHL action in a winning effort this year. He is a confident netminder who carries himself with swagger. “A lot of composure,” Wings blueliner Moritz Seider said. “I think he lives for those kinds of opportunities.” - Bob Duff
70. Otto Stenberg, C, St. Louis Blues
Springfield (AHL)
71. Harrison Brunicke, D, Pittsburgh Penguins
Kamloops (WHL)
72. Igor Chernyshov, LW, San Jose Sharks
Saginaw (OHL)
73. Isaac Howard, LW, Tampa Bay Lightning
Michigan State (Big Ten)
As an NCAA junior, Howard has more than doubled his previous-best goal total. Now in his second season with the Spartans after transferring from Minnesota-Duluth, he’s put in his work off the ice, both in the gym and in the film room. “There’s more pop in his skating, and his play has really evolved,” Lightning GM Julien BriseBois said. “His two-way play is much better. His competitiveness in battles, being able to win battles because now he’s physically stronger, being able to make more plays through checks.” - Erik Erlendsson
74. Nikita Artamonov, LW, Carolina Hurricanes
Nizhny Novgorod (KHL)
75. Dean Letourneau, C, Boston Bruins
Boston College (HE)
