NHL Announces 2024 Ted Lindsay Award Finalists

The NHL has named its three finalists for the Ted Lindsay Award. 

Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov, Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon and Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews are all in the running for the award.

The Ted Lindsay Award is given to the most outstanding player in the NHL. Members of the NHLPA determine the winner by voting. 

Kucherov, 30, is a deserving Ted Lindsay Award candidate. The superstar forward had a remarkable season for the Lightning, recording 44 goals and a league-leading 144 points in 81 games. He also became the first winger in NHL history to reach 100 assists in a single season.

Kucherov previously won the Ted Lindsay during the 2018-19 season. Because of his outstanding season, he is also in the running for the Hart Memorial Trophy. 

MacKinnon, 28, had an incredible season, posting new career highs with 51 goals, 89 assists and 140 points. He also became the first player in the NHL's history to have two 19-game point streaks in the same season.

Like Kucherov, MacKinnon is also one of the finalists for the Hart Trophy. This is also MacKinnon's third time being a finalist for the Ted Lindsay. This time around, he will be hoping to secure his first one. 

Matthews, 26, has a great chance to win the Ted Lindsay, as he was dominant this campaign with the Maple Leafs. The superstar center scored a league-leading 69 goals, securing his third Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy. He also posted a career-high 107 points. 

Matthews previously won the Ted Lindsay for the 2021-22 season. With that, he is currently in the running for the Selke Trophy and Lady Byng Trophy.
