The Erie Otters of the OHL have named Carey Terrance their captain for the 2024-25 season.
On Sept. 27, the Anaheim Ducks reassigned forward Carey Terrance (19) to his junior team, the Erie Otters of the OHL.
Three hours later, the Otters announced their captains for the 2024-25 season. Carey Terrance will wear the "C" in Erie, while top 2025 draft-eligible prospects Matthew Schaefer and Malcolm Spence, along with Pano Fimis, will act as alternates.
The Ducks selected Terrance in the second round (59th overall in 2023) as a speedy, north/south, defensively energetic center with a nose for the back of the net.
"I love to play in all situations," Terrance said of his game. "Playing the PK, powerplay, last-minute faceoffs, anywhere in the lineup, I think I have that versatility, and I can bring that to any team."
He scored 60 goals in his last 124 games for the Otters, including a goal in his first OHL game of the 2024-25 season. He notched two goals and two assists in six playoff games to finish off the 2023-24 season.

Terrance represented the United States at the 2024 World Junior Championship in Sweden, taking home a gold medal, but didn't see the ice in any games as the team's 14th forward.
"To come back home with a gold medal is amazing. I had a different role on the team, but I took advantage of it," Terrance said. "I learned a lot from older guys like Cutter (Gauthier) and (Rutger) McGroarty."
Terrance participated in the Ducks 2024 development camp, rookie camp, and training camp, displaying his trademark speed, tenacity, and defensive prowess while also adding layers of puck transporting and playmaking.
Ducks Prospect Projected to Make USA World Junior Championship Roster
"He's been tearing it up," Ducks forward Cutter Gauthier said at training camp. "Carey's a very reliable player. He's a great person, fun to have in the locker room, great guy off the ice, and he works really hard."
"His skating was apparent in every game," San Diego Gulls head coach Matt McIlvane said following the 'Rookie Faceoff' tournament. "He found ways to contribute on the scoresheet. The competitiveness and his ability to contribute between the play was excellent."
Terrance represented the United States again at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase and is likely a shoo-in to make the US 2025 World Junior Championship team, where he'll likely receive a substantially increased role.
The Erie Otters have five of their six top scorers from 2023-24 returning in 2024-25 and will look to make a deeper run in the 2025 OHL playoff and push for a Memorial Cup appearance as the OHL Champion with Terrance leading the way.
