With their fourth-round pick (100th overall) in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, the Anaheim Ducks selected highly skilled winger Alexandre Blais from Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL.
Blais saw his production explode in his second full season in the QMJHL as his offensive involvement increased. He finished the 2023-24 season with 24 goals and 84 points in 68 regular season games. He added six points in five playoff games as Rimouski was eliminated in the first round.
The Anaheim Ducks Select Beckett Sennecke With the Third Overall Pick
"I was confident in making plays," Blais said when asked about his jump in production. "It's a process and when I was seventeen, I had the confidence to make plays, but didn't have the confidence to make them night after night."
Blais is one of the more skilled and creative players in the 2024 draft. His involvement in all three zones puts his supreme puck skills on display regularly.
From the left wing position, Blais is energetic and always sniffing out pucks. He has tremendous vision with the puck on his stick, whether in transition or on the rush. He's able to open up lanes with his quickness and knows when and where teammates are going to be open.
Ducks select Stian Solberg with 23rd overall pick
His explosive stride, above-average edges, and quick crossovers make him one of the more agile and elusive players when he's transporting the puck.
He can attack a defensive structure from the wall or through the middle and will often draw defenders toward him to open up the ice and find teammates in soft spaces behind them.
Ducks Select Lucas Pettersson With the 35th Overall Pick
"I'm an offensive guy," Blais said of his play style. "I'm pretty intelligent on the ice. I can feed the puck well to my teammates. I'm not the biggest, but I'm not scared to go into corners and win battles."
Blais will be heading to Anaheim with fellow QMJHL forward Maxim Masse. It won't be an unfamiliar environment as he stated he is friendly with current players in the Ducks organization like Noah Warren, Tristan Luneu, Nathan Gaucher, and Tyson Hinds.
The Ducks Select Ethan Procyszyn at 68 Overall
