The Anaheim Ducks trade forward Jacob Perreault to the Montreal Canadiens for forward Jan Mysak

One day before the NHL's March 8 trade deadline, the Anaheim Ducks traded forward Jacob Perreault (21) to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Jan Mysak (20).
Mysak was drafted by the Habs in the second round (48th overall) in the 2020 NHL draft. In his draft year, he split his time playing in Czechia's top professional league for HC Litvinov, scoring 9 points in 26 games, and the Hamilton Bulldogs of the OHL, scoring 25 points in 22 games.

During the 2020-21 season, Mysak played 11 games for HC Litvinov, only managing a point. He also played 22 games in the AHL for the Laval Rocket and scored two goals.
In 2021-22, Mysak played the entire season for the Hamilton Bulldogs where he wore an "A" on his jersey while scoring 34 goals and 30 assists in 61 regular season games. He represented his team in the Memorial Cup alongside now Ducks' center, Mason McTavish, and scored 11 points in 17 games during the Bulldogs' playoff run.
Mysak captained Czechia in two World Junior Championship tournaments in 2021 and 2022 where he scored 11 points in 12 games. Czechia lost the 2022 Bronze Medal game vs Sweden.
Mysak's spent the last two seasons in the AHL playing for the Laval Rocket. During his time there, he's scored 18 goals and chipped in 11 assists in 88 games.
Mysak has all the tools to be an effective player in the systems the Ducks and Gulls run. He is an above average forechecker where he forces turnovers or poor decision making from opposing defenders. He funnels pucks to the net and slot areas and attacks downhill with a strong stride. Mysak will likely report to the Gulls for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, but a few games in the NHL isn't off the table.
Trade: The Ducks send Ilya Lyubushkin to the Maple Leafs for Draft Pick
Jacob Perreault was drafted 30th overall in the 2020 NHL draft and never fully hit his stride for the San Diego Gulls, the AHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks. He was thrust into AHL action before he was likely ready due to the OHL's cancelation of the 2020-21 season. The Gulls have employed four different head coaches during Perreault's tenure in San Diego, so the lack of consistency could have been a reason for his development unfolding the way it has. He's totalled 91 points in 161 games thus far in his AHL career.
Perreault has all the tools to be a dynamic point producer at the NHL level. His transition IQ and playmaking skills are a significant asset as are his puck skills and quick shot release. He has shown an ability to dissect a breakout and cause turnovers on the forecheck as well. He has tended to play along the perimeter in the offensive zone and has shown to be a streaky point producer. When he isn't appearing on scoresheets, he struggles to impact the game on a nightly basis.
Perreault and Mysak are seemingly perfect "change of scenery" candidates for the Ducks and Habs with where each team is in their respective rebuilds. Each player will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in an environment more suited to their brand of hockey.
