The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship will occur between Dec. 26 and Jan. 5 in Ottawa, OT.

Ducks' Top Prospect Snubbed from Canada World Junior Selection Camp

The annual tournament will feature the top U20 players from ten countries.

Rosters were selected earlier in the month, and pre-tournament games are underway.

Four Anaheim Ducks prospects will represent their countries in this year's tournament: Carey Terrance (USA), Austin Burnevik (USA), Darels Uljanskis (Latvia), and Vojtech Port (Czechia).

    Carey Terrance

Terrance will be one of ten returning players from Team USA's 2024 World Junior gold medal team. He'll be assuming a larger role than at last year's tournament, where he made the journey to Sweden, but he was one of three US players who didn't suit up for a game.

Ducks Prospect Named Captain of Junior Team

Terrance will hope to add to his trophy case, which features a 2023 U18 World Championship gold medal along with the one he earned at last year's WJC.

Terrance was selected by the Ducks in the second round (59th overall) of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He's a versatile center who can play all 12 forward positions and feature on the power play as well as penalty kill.

His calling card is his speed and tenacity, often featured disrupting on forechecks or chasing down rushes on the backcheck.

Terrance is the captain of the Erie Otters of the OHL, where he has 14 goals and 26 points in 29 games thus far in 2024-25.

    Austin Burnevik

Burnevik is set to represent the US for the first time in his career at an IIHF tournament.

His selection could be seen as a bit of a surprise. He was a member of the USNTDP until his draft year (2023-24) when he scored 40 goals and 71 points in 61 games for the Madison Capitals of the USHL.

Burnevik was taken by the Ducks in the sixth round (182nd overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft as a detailed all-around winger with every tool in the toolbox except one: skating.

His below-average stride and edges haven't been a limiting factor yet, as he's a 6-foot-4 winger who can break down opposing defenses with lightning-quick hands, cutbacks, NHL-level shot, slip passes, and getting to the middle of the ice at will.

In 2024-25, his freshman year at St. Cloud State University, he leads his team in scoring and is fourth among NCAA freshmen with nine goals and 16 points in 17 games.

    Darels Uljanskis

Uljanskis will represent Latvia for the fourth time at the 2025 WJC as one of only two players on Latvia's team drafted in the NHL.

The Riga native wore his nation's colors at the 2023 and 2024 U18 World Championships and the 2024 World Junior Championship.

The Anaheim Ducks selected Uljanskis in the seventh round (214th overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He's the epitome of the term "two-way defenseman" as he impacts play in every zone and on both sides of the puck, but he doesn't have a standout trait as he's good to average in every aspect.

Uljanskis currently plays for AIK of Sweden's J20 Nationell league, where he's third on his team in scoring and fifth among the league's defensemen with five goals and 21 points in 27 games.

    Vojtech Port

Port will represent Czechia for the first time in an IIHF tournament at this year's World Juniors. He's one of four NHL-drafted defensemen on this Czechia roster.

Ducks Prospects Projected to Make 2025 World Junior Championship Rosters

Port was selected by the Ducks in the sixth round (161st overall) in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft as a raw, all-around blueliner with sound defensive fundamentals.

He, like Uljanskis, doesn't have a standout trait but can provide quality minutes in every role. He has played heavy defensive minutes for four different teams (Red Deer Rebels, Edmonton Oil Kings, Moosejaw Warriors, and Lethbridge Hurricanes) in his two-and-a-half seasons in the WHL.

Port is a smart defender who eliminates lanes, time, and space early on attacking forwards. He provides simple, effective offense, but his offensive game hasn't quite rounded into form as he's consistently defending in the WHL.

He has five points in 27 games thus far in the 2024-25 season.
