Could this be something to watch?
The Anaheim Ducks are about to embark on a crucial offseason that could define the franchise for years to come. They hold the second overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft and have a treasure chest full of young talent on the roster that is ready to bloom. The team brought in a new head coach in Greg Cronin, who will be tasked in getting the most out of those young players. But there are some players within the organization that some may not be thinking about that could have an impact next season.
That would be the two players that the Ducks selected in the first round last season, Nathan Gaucher and Pavel Mintyukov. Corey Abbott of The Hockey Writers believes that both can make an impact but for next season, Gaucher could be the name to watch for.
"It wouldn’t be surprising to see him spend most of the 2023-24 campaign with the Gulls, but he could also get a look in the NHL at some point. If Gaucher lands an NHL roster spot out of training camp, the Ducks will benefit from his 6-foot-3, 207-pound frame and ability to win faceoffs."
The Ducks struggled much of last season so getting any help would be welcome. Gaucher could make a name for himself this season as a bottom line center that is big, strong and has the ability to use his physicality to win faceoffs. He is a very versatile player and the team may look to give him a shot in the big leagues.
His limitations on offense could slow his progress but he has increased his offensive production as he has gotten more experience. In 44 games for the Quebec Remparts, he scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists. If he could do produce these kind of results consistently, he would become a consistent member of the Ducks roster.
Anaheim has a lot of decisions to make this offseason including the futures of both Gaucher and Mintyukov. Cronin has his work cut out for him this season but he is hopeful that his experience at other levels will help elevate this team.
