His future with the team is in doubt now..
There has been much speculation about the future of veteran John Gibson with the Anaheim Ducks. It was reported earlier in the offseason that Gibson wanted to be traded to a team that he deemed was more ready to win a Stanley Cup now as Anaheim enters into a rebuild. But nobody had really heard from Gibson himself. That was until July 4 when Gibson made an appearance on the The Cam and Strick Podcast, where he spoke about his future with the Ducks.
You can see his response below about where his head is regarding staying in Anaheim.
So based on this, it's still unclear what will happen with the goalie. He still has four years left on his contract at around $6.4 million per season, so it's a hefty price for whatever teams may be interested in acquiring his services.
General Manager Pat Verbeek certainly would be asking for quite the haul for the team to trade their long-time goaltender, and it remains uncertain whether or not opposing teams would pay the heavy price for him.
It would make all the sense in the world for the two sides to split as Gibson wants to win a Stanley Cup here soon, and in all likelihood, the Ducks would be lucky to just contend for a playoff spot next season.
This will be a major storyline to follow as the summer goes along, and if Gibson does return to Anaheim next season, it doesn't mean that this is over.
