I guess you really can't believe everything you read...

In a weird turn of events, the report on Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson saying that he will never play another game for the Ducks has been deemed false. Gibson's agent put out a statement that his client never said that, nor has he told any member of the Ducks anything of the sort.

Within the statement, he says that Gibson is proud to be a member of the Ducks organization as well. You can see the full release below.

Earlier in the day, Frank Seravalli of The Daily Faceoff reported that Gibson stated that he would never play another game for Anaheim. This led to many in the industry to believe that the long-time goalie would finally be moved this summer.

Seravalli has previously reported that Gibson wanted out of Anaheim as the team has seen some tough years of late, but this was something, unlike Gibson. He normally isn't that fiery of a person, so it came as quite a shock to many in the industry.

Assuming that the agent's release is true, this is a terrible look for Seravalli. Normally one of the more trusted people in the sport, this could end up hurting his reputation.

Now I do believe that Gibson would welcome a trade from Anaheim, as he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild. It would make sense for both sides, but Gibson is a fan favorite, so he would be missed if the team does indeed trade him.

The Ducks have made some nice moves already in early free agency so maybe that convinces Gibson to stay. He still has four years left on his contract, so Anaheim is under no real obligation to move the veteran net-minder.

This will be a major story to watch as the summer unfolds because if Gibson departs, Anaheim will have a big hole in the net.
