Jake DeBrusk scored his 16th goal of the year in overtime to hand the Boston Bruins a 2-1 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens.

Jake DeBrusk scored 24 seconds into overtime to lift the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Thursday.

Brad Marchand launched the 2-on-1 rush and centered it to DeBrusk, who deked to his backhand to get around Canadiens goalie Sam Montembeault for the win.

Linus Ullmark made 18 saves for Boston, which improved to 39-14-15. Danton Heinen scored the other goal.

Heinen picked up right where he left off in his assault of the Canadiens. After netting a hat trick in Boston’s 9-4 win against Montreal on Jan. 20, Heinen gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 4:49 of the first.

With the Bruins mounting pressure in the offensive zone, Pavel Zacha fed David Pastrnak for a one-timer, which rebounded out to Heinen. Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky pushed Heinen to the ground, but the Bruins forward still managed to shoot the puck in as he fell to the ground.

Montreal slowly worked into the game, and started to hem Boston into its own zone as the first period progressed. A Brandon Carlo turnover in the corner to Nick Suzuki in the left circle allowed the Canadiens captain to get a shot off, which Hampus Lindholm deflected away with his skate. However, the puck fell right to Slafkovsky, who passed it back over to Suzuki for the clean shot to tie it 1-1 at 14:37.

After a scoreless second and third period, despite several power-play opportunities for either side, the game moved to overtime. Boston picked up its fifth win in eight games.
