The Boston Bruins have several new players on their roster heading into the 2025-26 season. Among their most notable newcomers are Viktor Arvidsson, Sean Kuraly, Tanner Jeannot, and Michael Eyssimont.
However, the Bruins also have some less-talked-about new players who fans should be giving more of their attention to. Due to this, let's go over three of them now.
While the Bruins primarily focused on improving their forward group this off-season, they also added to their defensive depth by signing blueliner Jordan Harris to a one-year, $825,000 contract. Harris hit the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA) after the Columbus Blue Jackets did not send him a qualifying offer. As a result of this, the Bruins jumped at the opportunity to sign the Massachusetts native, and he has the potential to be a very solid addition to their roster.
By bringing in Harris, the Bruins have added a new, interesting young defenseman to their roster. He should serve very well in a depth for the Original Six club, as his strong versatility allows him to play both sides. Due to this, he will be a good option for the Bruins to use in the lineup when injuries inevitably arise or when the club's blueline needs a shakeup. With this, he is standing out as a prime replacement for off-season departure Parker Wotherspoon, who signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this month.
Harris spent this past season with the Blue Jackets, where he recorded one goal, four assists, five points, 23 hits, and a minus-1 rating. Overall, it was a bit of a quiet year for Harris with the Blue Jackets, but he has made more of an impact in previous years. Just back during the 2023-24 season with the Montreal Canadiens, Harris recorded three goals, 11 assists, and 14 points in 56 games. This was after he set career highs with four goals, 13 assists, and 17 points in 65 contests with the Canadiens during the 2022-23 season. Thus, he has the potential to provide some offense from the point, and it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back with the Bruins because of it.
Furthermore, with Harris being only 25 years old, he is still young enough that he could improve further. Therefore, there is truly no harm in the Bruins signing him to this one-year deal, and it will be interesting to see if playing for Boston helps him hit a new level.
One of the many moves the Bruins made on July 1 was signing forward Matej Blumel to a one-year, $875,000 contract. While this is another smaller signing for the Bruins, it is certainly fair to argue that Blumel could end up being a good addition to their roster.
Blumel spent most of this past season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Texas Stars, and he was simply excellent. In 67 games with the AHL squad, the 25-year-old winger posted new career highs with 39 goals, 33 assists, and 72 points. This was after he had 31 goals and 62 points in 72 games with Texas during the 2023-24. With numbers like these, Blumel has had a ton of success in the AHL level and will now be looking to cement himself as a full-time NHL player after signing with the Bruins.
When looking at the Bruins' current roster, there is no question that they need serious help at the right wing position. Thus, taking a chance on a young winger who has made a significant impact at the AHL level, like Blumel, certainly makes sense for the Original Six club. If he can translate some of his AHL success over to the NHL level with the Bruins, he could provide Boston with a nice boost that they desperately need.
Blumel has played in 13 career NHL games over two seasons, where he has recorded two goals and a minus-3 rating. While he has not broken out at the NHL level yet, the Dallas Stars' deep forward depth blocked him from having a permanent spot in their lineup. Perhaps this could change for him on a retooling club like Bruins.
Alex Steeves is another player who the Bruins added to their roster this off-season. The Bruins signed the 6-foot forward to a one-year, one-way contract for the 2025-26 season, where he will carry a $850,000 cap hit. This is another depth signing for the Bruins, but Steeves' success in the AHL certainly makes him a player to keep an eye on.
Like Blumel, Steeves had a strong 2024-25 season at the AHL level. In 59 games with the Toronto Marlies on the year, the Saint Paul, Minnesota native recorded new career highs with 36 goals and 62 points in 59 games. This was after he had back-to-back seasons with at least 51 points with the Marlies in 2022-23 and 2023-24, so he has been an impactful AHL player for a while.
The Bruins will have spots to fight for during training camp, and a strong pre-season could help Steeves' chances of making the Bruins' opening night roster. Furthermore, with Steeves only being 25 years old, he is another new Bruin who could very well take another step forward in their development. This is especially so when noting that he could get more chances on the Bruins' roster than he did with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bruins Have 3 Potential Trade Targets From Penguins
If the Boston Bruins truly hope to turn things back around during the 2025-26 season, it would be wise for them to add another skilled forward to their roster before the campaign begins. When looking at teams that could be willing to sell off some of their talent, there is no question that the Pittsburgh Penguins stand out the most.
