The Bruins' options to improve their roster just keep getting slimmer.
Another notable free agent target is officially no longer an option for the Boston Bruins.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Buffalo Sabres are trading forward Alex Tuch to the Washington Capitals. In addition, Friedman reported that Tuch is signing an eight-year contract with the Capitals with a $10.5 million AAV.
With the Bruins desperately needing another scorer in their top six, Tuch was viewed as a prime potential UFA target for them. This is especially so when noting that Tuch had been previously connected to the Bruins in the past. However, he is now heading to the Capitals, who also just traded for Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
While Tuch would have been a great pickup for the Bruins' top six, his new $10.5 million cap hit is undoubtedly very high. This is especially so with the now-Capitals winger being locked up for so many years. Yet, the Bruins are not going to find a player as impactful as Tuch on the free agent market once July 1 arrives.
In 79 games this past season with the Sabres, Tuch recorded 33 goals, 33 assists, 66 points, 82 hits, and 90 blocks.
