The Bruins will soon be naming their captain.
With training camp here for the Boston Bruins, they have now provided an update on their team's captain vacancy.
While speaking with reporters, including The Hockey News' Russell Macias, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced that the team will be naming their next captain before opening night.
The Bruins have not had a captain since they traded Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers during the 2024-25 season. Now, after going the entire 2025-26 season without a captain, Boston is ready to announce their next leader.
The two leading candidates for the Bruins' captaincy are winger David Pastrnak and defenseman Charlie McAvoy. Both players are incredibly important parts of the Bruins' roster and have become clear leaders in their room.
It will now be interesting to see who the Bruins end up choosing as their next captain. With the regular-season almost here, an annoucement should be coming very soon.
