The Boston Bruins have made their first big move of the 2026 offseason, as they are reportedly acquiring JJ Peterka from the Utah Mammoth, according to multiple reports, including Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
The Bruins traded the 23rd overall pick and the Florida Panthers' 2028 first-round pick to Utah in exchange for Peterka.
The Bruins initially acquired Florida's 2028 first-rounder in exchange for Brad Marchand at the 2025 Trade Deadline.
Peterka, 24, posted 25 goals and 47 points in 82 games in his first season with the Mammoth.
The skilled German forward previously posted 27 goals and 68 points in 2024-25 with the Buffalo Sabres.
Peterka's an incredible skater, with one of the highest 22 mph+ speed bursts in the NHL, with 203 total such bursts, an incredible figure.
He's posted 25+ goals in three straight seasons, something only David Pastrnak has done in the last three seasons.
Peterka did not receive his usual amount of ice time, with the Mammoth opting to have him on their third line, and he received nearly two fewer minutes in average ice time.
It's the second straight NHL trade for the Bruins, where they acquired a German skater for Head Coach Marco Sturm, who is German himself and coached the 2018 Olympic German team.
The previous acquisition was Lukas Reichel at the trade deadline.
Peterka immediately replaces pending UFA Viktor Arvidsson in Boston's lineup, subtracting nearly 10 years of age (24 vs 33 years old), with potential to play on Boston's top line.
Peterka's speed and lineup versatility, along with his elite shot, makes him a perfect replacement for Arvidsson in Boston's lineup.
The German has four more years left at a cap hit of $7.7 million per season.
