The Bruins have brought in a much-needed upgrade to their right side.
According to The New York Post's Mollie Walker, the Boston Bruins have acquired defenseman Will Borgen from the New York Rangers in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-round pick.
Walker also reported that the Bruins' 2028 third-round pick will become a second-round pick if the Bruins reach the Eastern Conference Final in either 2027 or 2028 and Borgen plays in at least 50% of Boston's playoff games.
It is no secret that the Bruins have desperately needed to add to the right side of their blueline. Now, they have done just that by acquiring Borgen from the Rangers.
When looking at the Bruins' current roster, Borgen has a good chance of slotting in on the right side of their second pairing. He will also provide the Bruins with another clear option for their penalty kill because of his shutdown ability.
Borgen may not be a flashy offensive defenseman, but he is a steady stay-at-home blueliner who has the potential to strengthen the Bruins' blueline. He is also a long-term addition for the Bruins, as he has a reasonable $4.1 million cap hit through the 2029-30 season.
In 75 games this past season with the Rangers, Borgen recorded five goals, 10 assists, 15 points, 99 blocks, and 111 hits.
