According to The Athletic's Scott Powers, the Boston Bruins have acquired the rights to defenseman Victor Soderstrom from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Ryan Mast and a seventh-round pick.
Soderstrom, 24, just spent the 2024-25 season in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Brynas IF. In 49 games with the SHL squad, he posted nine goals, 37 points, and a plus-28 rating. He also had eight points in 17 playoff games this year.
Soderstrom is a former first-round pick, as the right-shot defenseman was selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Arizona Coyotes. In 53 career NHL games over four seasons, he has recorded one goal, 11 points, and a minus-7 rating. He last played in the NHL during the 2023-24 season.
Mast, 22, was selected by the Bruins with the 181st overall pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-5 right-shot defenseman spent this season in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, where he had five assists, 19 penalty minutes, and a plus-7 rating.
