The Bruins are bringing in some much-needed toughness.
Pat Maroon appears to be a Boston Bruin.
Michael Russo of The Athletic reported Friday that the Bruins acquired the veteran forward in exchange for a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
Maroon – who stands at 6-foot-3, 234 pounds – will add size, depth and a gritty edge to the Bruins’ bottom six. The 35-year-old is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, picking up two with the Tampa Bay Lightning and one with the St. Louis Blues in 2018-19 against Boston.
“I played with him for a long time in Anaheim, and he was a really good player for us, especially come playoff time. I think that’s always when he steps up his game. Great guy to be around,” Hampus Lindholm said Friday following Bruins practice.
Maroon has posted 16 points (four goals, 14 assists) through 49 games this season. He’s had a shortened season due to back surgery on Feb. 7 which has an expected recovery time of four to six weeks.
“The guy’s a winner. A couple different teams, won cups and those are guys that can only help you in your room. The physical presence he brings, the veteran leadership. A guy who has won,” Charlie Coyle said Friday.

Maroon is currently in the second season of his two-year, $2 million contract. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The Boston Bruins are Maroon’s seventh NHL destination in 13 seasons.
"He's the kind of player that brings a little glue to the locker room and on the bench," Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said Friday.
