Boston Bruins president Cam Neely met with reporters on Wednesday, now that the season is done for the Original Six club.
While doing so, Neely was entirely transparent about one of the Bruins' biggest needs heading into the off-season.
While speaking to reporters, including Joe Haggerty, Sweeney was honest in saying that the Bruins need to find a true first-line center.
"We all recognize this room that we don't have a true No. 1 C. Whether it's growing one from within our organization or going outside our group to get one, we know that is something that we need to rectify," Neely said.
It is hard to disagree with Neely here. It is no secret that the Bruins need a true first-line center if they hope to be a real threat in the NHL again.
While Elias Lindholm has had his solid moments at times since joining the Bruins, he is better-suited as a middle-six center at this point in his career. The Bruins do have two exciting young centers in James Hagens and Fraser Minten who they will be hoping can hit new levels for them next season.
Yet, if the Bruins want an immediate answer for their first-line center problem, the trade market might be their best route. Robert Thomas would be the dream target for Boston, while other centers like Elias Pettersson, Nico Hischier, and Vincent Trocheck could be players to watch during the summer.
