The Boston Bruins picked up a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night. With it, the Bruins now have a 36-22-6 record and are just one point behind the Detroit Red Wings.
Charlie McAvoy was the hero for the Bruins in this one, as he scored the overtime winner for the Black and Gold. It was a nice one, too, as McAvoy deked out King goalie Darcy Kuemper and beat him on the backhand.
McAvoy's game-winner was extra sweet when noting that the star blueliner lost some teeth earlier in the contest after receiving a big hit from Kings forward Samuel Helenius.
McAvoy returning to the game and having this big moment landed him some praise from Bruins head coach Marco Sturm.
"The guy next to him, he's going to look over (and ask), 'Okay, is he going to battle through it or not?' If you sit across from him, and if you're a young guy, to see that, you (say) 'I don't want to be the guy who's going quit.' Those are the guys you need in a locker room," Sturm said about McAvoy.
Clearly, Sturm is a big fan of the way McAvoy plays and leads. Could he end up being the Bruins' pick as their next captain? It certainly is possible.
