Despite helping turn the Bruins around this season, Marco Sturm is not one of the finalists for the Jack Adams Award.
The NHL has announced the three finalists for the Jack Adams Award, and Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm is not among them.
Instead, Jon Cooper (Tampa Bay Lightning), Dan Muse (Pittsburgh Penguins), and Lindy Ruff (Buffalo Sabres) are this year's finalists for the Jack Adams Award.
Sturm certainly had a case for himself to be a finalist for the Jack Adams Award, as he helped turn the Bruins around in a major way this season. In his first season behind the Bruins' bench as head coach, Sturm led the Original Six club to a 45-27-10 record and 100 points. This was after the Bruins had a 33-39-10 record under Jim Montgomery and then Joe Sacco just last season.
However, despite his solid first season as Boston's head coach, Sturm is not in the running for the Jack Adams Award. Regardless of that, Sturm's first regular season as the Bruins' bench boss was a success, and it will be fascinating to see if he can help lead the Bruins past the Sabres in the first round from here.
Out of the three finalists, Ruff and Muse stand out as the likely frontrunners. Like Sturm, both of these two helped their teams get into the playoffs when they were not expected to make them.
