The Bruins are among the teams linked to this Red Wings defenseman.
The Boston Bruins are continuing to be linked to one of the NHL's top trade candidates.
During Tuesday's episode of TSN Insider Trading, Pierre LeBrun reported that the Bruins are among the teams having trade talks with the Detroit Red Wings about star defenseman Simon Edvinsson.
"Horcoff still wants to sign him. He's still holding out hope, but continues to have trade talks with teams," LeBrun said about Edvinsson. "Up to 10 teams are involved in these talks. I'm told San Jose and Boston are among the teams that are interested."
Hearing that the Bruins are among the teams having trade talks with the Red Wings about Edvinsson makes a ton of sense. He would be a perfect fit on a retooling Bruins club that is looking to maintain its hot start to the season.
If the Bruins successfully landed Edvinsson, he would give them a long-term answer for the left side of their top four at a minimum. However, with the 23-year-old being so young and having great upside, he could be an answer on the Bruins' top pairing with Charlie McAvoy if acquired.
Edvinsson has shown a lot of promise early on his career. The 2021 sixth-overall pick had a very strong year in 2025-26 with the Red Wings, posting nine goals, 25 points, 94 hits, and a plus-12 rating in 72 games. This was after he had seven goals, 31 points, 86 hits, and a plus-12 rating in 78 games for Detroit in 2024-25.
Yet, with Edvinsson being a young former first-round pick who is already a very good top-four defenseman, the Red Wings are going to demand a lot in any potential move. This is especially so when noting that Detroit's priority is still to keep him around.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the Bruins' interest in Edvinsson will lead to them making a blockbuster deal with the Red Wings from here.
