Could the Bruins and Flames link up with a trade?
During this past season, the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames came close to a completing a trade centering around defenseman Rasmus Andersson. However, due to Andersson not wanting to sign a contract extension with the Bruins, the deal fell through. He was then traded to the Vegas Golden Knights.
While the Bruins and Flames did not get to the finish line with a trade last season, it is fair to wonder if they could talk another deal this summer. Both teams have trading assets that could intrigue the other.
The Flames were connected to Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei last season, and it would be understandable if they were interested in him this summer. Even after acquiring Jacob Middleton from the Minnesota Wild this off-season, Calgary could use some help on the left side of their blueline. Bringing in Lohrei would provide them with just that.
The Bruins, on the other hand, could use help with their forward group. When looking at the Flames' current trade candidates, Morgan Frost is an interesting potential option for Boston to consider. While the 27-year-old would not provide the Bruins with an answer for their first-line center problem, he would have the potential to be a nice addition to their middle six. The 2017 first-round pick scored a career-high 22 goals and recorded 43 points in 82 games last season for Calgary.
With Frost being a center, he carries a bit more value than Lohrei. Because of this, the Bruins would likely need to include a mid-round pick as part of the deal.
Bruins Get:
- Morgan Frost
Flames Get:
- Mason Lohrei
- 2029 Third-Round Pick
This is a deal that would have the potential to benefit both the Bruins and the Flames. The Bruins would be adding a skilled, proven forward to their middle six, while the Flames would add a young left-shot defenseman who is still looking to break out.
