The Bruins once again squandered a good opportunity.

Another important game, another loss for the Boston Bruins.

The Bruins fell to the Montreal Canadiens in overtime by a 3-2 final score on Tuesday night. With this, the Bruins have lost each of their last two games in overtime and have only won one out of their last four contests. This is concerning with the playoff race being very tight in the Eastern Conference.

However, this loss to the Canadiens was particularly frustrating, as the Bruins squandered a golden opportunity in the process. Had the Bruins defeated the Canadiens in regulation, they would have jumped ahead of them in the standings and moved up to third place in the Atlantic Division standings. However, by losing in overtime, the Bruins are instead two points behind the Habs.

The Canadiens are also set to face the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night, who are tied with the Bruins in points. Depending on who wins that contest, the Bruins are either going to fall further behind the Canadiens or the Red Wings will jump ahead of the Black and Gold in the Atlantic Division standings.

The Columbus Blue Jackets also defeated the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. With this, they are now only one point behind the Bruins.

The Bruins getting a point against the Canadiens is better than nothing, but they need to avoid extending their losing streak. Every point matters at this stage of the season, and it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday from here.
