This Boston Bruins legend is gearing up for his next big fitness adventure.

Boston Bruins legend Zdeno Chara will forever be known for his immense durability. The future Hall of Famer played 24 years in the NHL, including 14 with the Bruins, before hanging up the skates at the completion of the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-9 defender is one of the best-conditioned players in the NHL's history, and that has not changed now that he is retired.
Since retiring from the NHL, Chara has focused on running and endurance sports. He has completed eight marathons, with two of them being the Boston Marathon. He also completed a half Ironman and, most recently, a full Ironman. However, the 47-year-old is now taking his fitness journey to an entirely new level.

Chara is set to participate in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii this October.
In an email interview with Runner's World, Chara discussed his passion for endurance sports.
"Being immersed in the endurance sports community has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my post-hockey athletic journey. This new chapter has opened up a whole new world for me. The transition from professional hockey to endurance sports has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. I’m eagerly looking forward to many more finish lines to come.”
Chara also added:
"Each marathon I’ve participated in holds a special place in my memory. However running the Boston Marathon stands out as an unparalleled experience. Boston isn’t just any city for me — it’s home."
Clearly, this is something that Chara has grown a deep love for, and it will be fun to see how he does in the Ironman World Championships this October from here.
