This Bruins defenseman should be a key part of their blueline next season.
The Boston Bruins made multiple additions to their roster this off-season. Defenseman Will Borgen is among them, as they acquired him from the New York Rangers.
The Bruins' decision to acquire Borgen was not too difficult to understand. They needed to improve their depth on the right side of their blueline, as it was one of the weakest parts of their roster last season.
When looking at the Bruins' current roster, it seems very likely that Borgen will find a home in the Bruins' top four. He is Boston's top right-shot defenseman after Charlie McAvoy, so there is a real chance that he will play on their second pairing.
The Bruins have been in need of answer for the right side of their second pairing since they traded Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline. Now, they absolutely need Borgen to be just that.
If Borgen can provide the Bruins' second pairing with a steady defensive defenseman, it would certainly benefit the Original Six club. He has the potential to do so, but time will tell if he ends up being a match with Hampus Lindholm.
In 75 games during this past season with the Rangers, Borgen posted five goals, 10 assists, 15 points, 99 blocks, and 111 hits.
