Zadorov has been fined by NHL Player Safety.
NHL Player Safety has announced that Boston Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov has been fined $5,000 for roughing Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Alex Vlasic.
This is the highest fine that an NHL player can receive for roughing under the current CBA.
With roughly a minute and a half left in the second period, Zadorov hit Vlasic in the face with a hard punch while the Blackhawks defenseman was down on the ice.
Vlasic started the rough play after jumping Bruins forward Casey Mittelstadt, who is not known for being a physical player, away from the puck. That led to a scrum between the two teams.
Zadorov is known for standing up for his teammates, so it is not surprising in the slightest that he stepped in for Mittelstadt. However, that last punch from Zadorov took things too far in the eyes of NHL Player Safety, and he has now been fined for it.
Zadorov was given two minor penalties for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct on the play. With this, the Bruins blueliner now 47 penalty minutes in only 14 games this season.
