During the Boston Bruins' Jan. 22 contest against the New Jersey Devils, Jeremy Swayman was pulled for the start of the third period. This was after the 26-year-old goaltender stopped 25 out of 29 shots.
While Swayman picked up a loss in this game, he was not the problem. In fact, he played quite well, given how poorly the Bruins defended in front of him. Due to this, it felt that the Bruins pulled Swayman to have him rest for Jan. 23's big matchup against the Ottawa Senators.
However, while speaking to reporters, head coach Joe Sacco revealed there was more to the story.

"Well, we'll see," Sacco said when asked if taking Swayman out was for him to rest for the club's next game against Ottawa. "He was dealing with something minor, so we thought it would be best the way the game was going to get him out [of] there after the second period, and we'll see how he is tomorrow."
It is understandable that Sacco decided to take Swayman out since he was dealing with an issue. The Bruins were already down 4-1 to the Devils after the second period, so there was no reason for him to risk making it worse by staying in the game.
We will now need to wait for an update on Swayman from here. With the Bruins needing every point they can get and Swayman's play significantly improving down the stretch, the Original Six club will be hoping that he won't need to miss any time.
