Is it time for the Bruins to sign their top prospect?
The Boston Bruins are getting ice-cold at a bad time. With their 2-1 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, the Bruins have now lost each of their last three games. The Bruins still have a five-point lead over the Ottawa Senators for the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, but they need to bounce back to officially cement their spot in the playoffs.
The Bruins have scored only one goal in each of their three games during their losing streak and have been making changes to their lineup. With the Bruins struggling down the stretch, now feels like a good time for them to give top prospect James Hagens his first look on the NHL roster.
However, before the Bruins can call up Hagens from Providence, he will need to sign his entry-level contract (ELC). When looking at how he has performed in the AHL since joining Providence on an amateur tryout, he is making a case for himself to land his ELC. In six games for Providence, he has recorded one goal and four points. He also has two assists in his last two games.
With Hagens being a skilled prospect with a lot of upside and the Bruins' offense struggling, it would make sense if they signed the 2025 seventh-overall pick before the regular season is over. Let's see if they do just that.
