The Boston Bruins are preparing for what should be an intriguing trade deadline. They have performed below expectations this campaign and are currently out of a playoff spot. Thus, it is possible that the Bruins will flip some of their pending unrestricted free agents.
At this stage, the Bruins' likelihood of bringing in impactful rentals by the deadline appears lower than in previous years. However, that does not mean they should oppose targeting players who could help them beyond this season.
Due to this, one forward who could make a lot of sense for the Bruins to pursue is Seattle Kraken winger Jared McCann.
Sportsnet's Jacob Stoller recently reported that McCann could be available at the deadline. When noting that he is a top-six forward who plays both down the middle and on the wing, he would be an excellent player for the Bruins to acquire.

If the Bruins acquired McCann, he could work in multiple spots. He could replace Morgan Geekie at left wing on the Bruins' first line but could also play down the middle in Boston's top six. In addition, due to his offensive skill, he could give the Bruins a much-needed boost on their power play.

Another big reason why McCann would make sense as a target for the Bruins is that he would be more than a rental. He has an affordable $5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season, which adds to his appeal.
McCann has 14 goals, 42 points, and a plus-7 rating in 57 games this season with the Kraken. This is after he had 62 points in 80 games last season and 40 goals and 70 points in 79 games with the Kraken in 2022-23. With numbers like these, McCann would instantly become one of Boston's top offensive producers if acquired.
Nevertheless, if the Kraken officially shops McCann, the Bruins should consider pursuing the skilled forward.
