Bruins Should Target Former Canucks Forward cover image

A former Bruins target is back in the rumor mill, and they should try to acquire him.

The Boston Bruins should be looking to add to their roster ahead of the 2026 NHL trade deadline. They have multiple trade needs that they could look to address, and one of them is another impactful winger for their middle six.

When looking at trade candidates around the NHL, San Jose Sharks forward Kiefer Sherwood stands out as an interesting option for the Bruins to consider.

While Sherwood was recently acquired by the Sharks from the Vancouver Canucks, the 30-year-old winger has found himself right back in the rumor mill. This is because The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun recently reported that the Sharks are open to trading Sherwood if they do not come to terms on a contract extension by the deadline.

If the Sharks make Sherwood available, the Bruins should seriously consider making a push for him. If they landed him, he would have the potential to be a nice fit on their third line with Fraser Minten and Marat Khusnutdinov. However, he also could move up and down the Bruins' lineup if needed, as he is well-known for his versatility. He would also give Boston another option to work with on their penalty kill and power play if brought in.

Sherwood's hard-nosed style of play would also make him a fit on the Bruins' roster. There is no question that Bruins GM Don Sweeney has made an effort to make the Bruins a tougher team to go up against, and acquiring Sherwood would help further that effort. This is made apparent by his 224 hits in 47 games this season and his NHL-record 462 hits this past season.

Sherwood has also been making an impact offensively this season, as he has 17 goals and 23 points. With numbers like these, he would have the potential to give the Bruins more secondary scoring with his grit. With all of this, the Bruins should consider kicking tires on him if the Sharks officially shop him.
