The Bruins have locked up one of their AHL defensemen following their Game 2 win over the Sabres.
The Boston Bruins have announced that they have signed defenseman Billy Sweezey to a one-year, two-way contract extension for the 2026-27 season. At the NHL level, he will have a cap hit of $850,000.
Sweezey is currently in his second season with the Bruins organization. Since then, he has played exclusively at the AHL level and has been a key part of the Providence Bruins' blueline.
In 69 regular-season games this season with Providence, he had one goal, 16 assists, 17 points, 84 penalty minutes, and a plus-21 rating. This is after he had one goal, 10 points, 67 penalty minutes, and a plus-7 rating in 64 games for Providence during this past season.
Sweezey last played at the NHL level during the 2022-23 season when he was a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets. In nine games that season with the Metropolitan Division club, the Hanson, Massachusetts native had one assist, 20 blocks, and 39 hits.
