The Bruins have added a new player to their depth on an AHL deal.
The Boston Bruins will have have a new forward to watch this season in the AHL.
The Providence Bruins have announced that they have signed forward Josh Bloom to a one-year, two-way AHL contract for the 2026-27 season.
Bloom was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, 95th overall. However, he never played a game for any of the Sabres' affiliates, as he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks during the 2022-23 season in exchange for defenseman Riley Stillman.
Bloom went on to make appearances for the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks and the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings from 2023-24 to this past season after being traded to Vancouver by Buffalo. However, the Canucks then traded him to the Edmonton Oilers this past March in exchange for forward Jayden Grubbe.
In 38 games over three AHL seasons split between Abbotsford and the Bakersfield Condors, Bloom has posted two goals and an assist. In the ECHL, Bloom has recorded 38 goals, 40 assists, and 78 points in 81 career games split between Kalamazoo and the Fort Wayne Comets.
Overall, there is no harm in Providence taking a chance on Bloom. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact the 23-year-old winger can make from here.
