The Boston Bruins lost 5-4 to the Detroit Red Wings, snapping their 10-game season-opening point streak, which was a franchise record.

The Boston Bruins lost in regulation for the first time this season, falling 5-4 to the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Saturday.

David Pastrnak, Matt Poitras and James van Riemsdyk each had a goal and an assist for Boston (9-1-1), and Linus Ullmark made 34 saves. Hampus Lindholm also scored his first point of the season with an assist.

Perron scored the winning goal for Detroit at 8:56 of the third period, getting the puck all alone at the left side of the zone and creeping into the middle to beat Ullmark.

Van Riemsdyk opened the scoring for Boston at 5:21 of the first period. Pastrnak fired at Husso following Zacha’s offensive zone face-off win, and van Riemsdyk cut to the net for the rebound to push the puck around Husso.

DeBrincat nearly tied it 25 seconds later, but Ullmark made a flashy glove save to maintain the lead. Poitras extended it to 2-0 at 9:28, skating in and patiently deking around Husso at the doorstep to make it an easy tap-in.

Lucas Raymond cut it to 2-1 at 16:20 on the power play, settling David Perron’s cross-ice pass inside the right circle and beating Ullmark. It was just the second power play goal Boston has allowed all season.

The Red Wings scored again on the power play to tie it 2-2 at 9:59 of the second, this time Jake Walman ripped a one-timer to the top corner of Ullmark’s glove-side.

Coyle regained the lead for Boston at 13:41, bumping in a slick pass from DeBrusk, who looked off a shot from the high slot to connect with Coyle at the back door to make it 3-2.

The Red Wings began to gain momentum in the third period, and Dylan Larkin tied it 3-3 at 6:50 of the third, going around Parker Wotherspoon and beating Ullmark short side for Detroit’s first even-strength tally of the night.

After Perron’s go-ahead tally, Andrew Copp padded the lead at 10:34, but Pastrnak cut it to 5-4 at 14:09 with a power-play goal from the high slot.

The game devolved into a slew of penalties by the end of the game, and both Lindholm and Larkin received 10-minute game misconducts with 20 seconds left for going at each other when emotions boiled over.

The Bruins will look to rebound on Monday against the Dallas Stars.
